Stacks (originally founded as Onename and later known as Blockstack) is a prominent blockchain project focused on bringing smart contracts, decentralized identity, and decentralized applications to the Bitcoin network.
In November 2014, the project successfully closed a Seed funding round, securing $1.33 million. The equity investment was led by Union Square Ventures, with strategic participation from notable backers including SV Angel, AngelList co-founder Naval Ravikant, Shana Fisher, and Barry Silbert. The capital was utilized to build out the early foundations of their decentralized identity and authentication system, following their prior incubation in the Y Combinator Summer 2014 batch.
